Quite simply, a Neighbourhood plan carries some legal clout. Once we’ve created it, it will be adopted by the community and become part of the wider Local Plan.

A Neighbourhood Plan gives us more of a voice in the decision-making process and provides a guide for the planning authority. Importantly, the Plan will have to be taken into account for any new planning applications. In short, it will give you, the local community, a way to positively shape Clapham.

The very process of putting it together is also a catalyst for discussion and community activity. We are already experiencing this, with lots of fresh ideas shared at the early consultation meetings. One point to note, though, is that the Neighbourhood Plan cannot be at odds with the Local Plan developed by the planning authority.
